Welcome to the Middle of the Road. This is a combined book review blog, one that is both cherished and prided over. We want everyone who comes to our page to find something of intrest to them, so when they walk away they are either satisfied or intrigued. We are both avid readers and have a passion about books that few of our other friends do. Both of us are happy to share our experiences in the book world and at times some goodies too. Enjoy your time here, and if you are anything like us, you could spend hours just wandering aimlessly through the world of books, just like a lazy afternoon down the Middle of the Road.

Reviews for Parents

This is where we write a few words about each book we reviewed. Letting the parents know more about the content and age appropriate range for readers :) We have also included a link to the Author's web page in each of our write ups for you to get a better look at the books yourself. Enjoy!!

Graveminder: This is an adult novel from Melissa Marr. I would recommend it stay that way. Perhaps older teens can enjoy it, 17 and up. The is no much cussing, a brief sex scene and some violence. I think the level of understand that comes with this book is for the older crowd.

Sea Change: I would recommend this book as a tween book, however it has some strong references to sex in a few places soo maybe just a teen book. There is nothing explicit. But I feel that it may have parts too old for tweens. The is no cussing and no violence.

Cryer's Cross: I recommend this book for almost any teen or tween. It has no cussing, no violence, and no sex. It talks about kissing 2 or 3 times, but it is small pecks on the lips nothing more. The most intense thing about this book is the suspense. I would compare it to an R.L. Stine book :)

Die for me: This is a good read for ages 14 and up. There is limited references to sex, a small amount of violence and no cussing. I feel that the content of it is ' padded around the edges ' so to speak.

Star Crossed: Great YA teen read, especially for the summer time. It has a bit of violence, but nothing over the top or grusome. Also there are very few refrences to sexual enuendos. The cussing is nill. Over all I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 15.

The Warlock: This is a great YA read, not really a stand alone, you really need to read the whole series in order to understand it. I would recommend it for anyone over the age of 13. The violence is there but very minimal, there is no cussing or sexual content.

Rage: I adored this book, and I think it is a must read for ALL teenagers out there. I would recommend it to any child the age 12 and up, as well as their parents. I think it covers a very important topic in teen life, and does it in a way that holds your attention.

Personal Demons: This is a wonderful YA read. It has a strong Religious bearing, but also balances out with the fact that it is a fictional story. There are references to sex, there is cussing, and there is violence. I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 16.

Lover Unleashed: We DO NOT recommend this book to anyone under the age of 18. It has strong adult material including graphic references to sex. There is also the violence that comes along with the series. Now if you are an adult, this is an great read.

Angelfire: A wonderful YA book, I personally wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 16 due to the fact that there is violence in the book. I think that any parent to someone under 16 should read the book first before you decide if your child should read it or not.

Summer's Crossing: This isn't so much a book, but a Novella. It is by an amazing author, she does wonders for the YA genre. Violence, cussing, and sexual content are null and void in this eread. I would recommend this book for anyone who is a fan of Julie Kagawa's work.

A Touch Mortal: Dark and creepy, this book isn't really for the younger crowd, but older teens would devour it. It has some cursing, some violence, a little bit of betrayal, and a few references to sex, but nothing out right blatant. Love and loss fills the pages, but the book shows what a person can do if they are thrown into life without an instruction manual. recommended for 16 and up.

Dark Mirror: a wonderful YA read, it is filled with love, magic, friendship and the understanding that comes once you start to grow up. There is barely any cussing in this book, perhaps 1 or 2 words. No sex, and limited indirect violence. I def recommend this book to everyone of all ages.

Hunger: an absolutely terrific YA book. It is a story about eating disorders and how they can make your life spin out of control. And how you can learn to live again. I recommend it for every person out there!!

The Dark and Hollow Places: A wonderful YA read. But can be enjoyed by adults as well. Cursing and sex are all but nonexistent. The violence is of course there but mainly limited to the disposal of zombies. I would recommend this book for ages 16 and up, due to the violence, but other tan that it is an amazing story.

Switch: I would recommend this book for anyone over the age of 13. This is a really good summer read for young teens. I think I would have enjoyed it a little more if I could have read it while lying on a beach myself! I did enjoy it thoroughly though. I think that Carol Snow did a swell job writing this novel. It's a little shorter than I'm used to, but good just the same.

Demon Glass: This is a great book. No sex, not much cursing( less than 5 words ). Violence is at a minimum and not explicit at all. I love the fact that the story revolves around the main character and how she understands everything. It is a wonderful teen read ages 14 and up!!

Unearthly:This is definitely a YA read. There is no talk of sex or anything of that nature. (just a little kissing) There is no foul language either. Very good book that can be thoroughly enjoyed by YA and Adults alike.

Raised by Wolves: Raised by Wolves is most definitely a YOUNG adult read. I would recommend it for anyone that is 13-16 maybe 17 if they haven't read anything more advanced. I think it is really for younger teens.

Fallen: Very good Ya novel. I thouroughly enjoyed this book. It is suitable for all young adults. I would recommend this book for anyone over the age of 13. Very minimal talk of kissing and that's as 'sexual' as it gets.

The Flash of a Firefly: Very cute YA paranormal novel. This is Amber Riley's debut novel. I would definitly recommend it for our young followers. The launguage is very YA friendly, no talk of sex or anything like that. Just a kiss or two. Not even passionate kisses, more or less a peck on the lips or most of the time it was the forehead or cheek.

Blue Moon: Perfect book for summer time reading. Pick up the whole series to keep busy this summer :) Language and Violence are at a minimum and sexuality is very limited. In fact the only thing sexual about these books is the fact that they can't have sex.. or even kiss for that matter ( and kissing is the only thing that is talked about, sex is not even mentioned ), or else they die.

Switched: Cute read about a troubled girl who is able to find herself through the help of the people who she once thought was her real family and the ones she finds out is her real family. Language and sexuality are at a minimum. There is some violence but not much.

Evermore: This is really good read, but I would recommend it for teenagers of 16 and up. It has the death of a young girls family in it, and her struggles to overcome that. It also has a teenage girl falling in an intense love with a boy she has just met. The story does a great job of explaining the situation to make it acceptable. Language, violence, and sexuality are all at a very minimum.

I Love Him to Pieces: Graphic novel, or Manga as some call it. Cute and quirky read. What it was lacking in real bookiness, it made up for in humor. Recommended for teens of all ages, as long as they understand that a zombie apocalypse is not really on the rise.

The Candidates: This is a great YA paranormal book. As long as you don't mind your kid reading paranormal then there is no reason they shouldn't did right in on this one. No offensive language, no sex, or sexual innuendos. The main character is a 14 year old girl with supernatural powers. I def recommend this book to any and all YA fans :)

Lover Mine:I absolutely love these books. They are strictly adult reads! There are very vivid sex scenes throughout the novels and there is very vulgar language. I hope that all of the ADULT followers read these novels and enjoy then as much as I have :):)

Hex Hall: Cute little read about teenage drama, and what you have to deal with in high school. Even magically inclined high schools. Of course this adds a bit more, like the appearance of a demon, and some betrayals, and a little bit of blood loss. But nothing major, and I would def recommend this book for all Ya fans.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter: This book is a good fictional book. Of course there is lots of gore and bloody killings, but that's to be expected when you come across vampire hunting. I would not recommend this to the younger YA readers, 16 and older.

Eternal: This is a star-crossed lovers type book. The boy and girl fall in love, but just can't be together. The is Angels, and much talk of Heaven and Hell. There is murder and senseless death in this book, but nothing gruesome. Also there are a few references to sex, but nothing explicit.

Tantalize: This is a rather boring book. But it does hint towards teenage lust. There is a couple mentioned parts of sex, but it is between adults. There is a vampire who bites a teenage girl in her private areas, and also a lot of betrayal.

Ash: This is a retelling of an old classic. Cinderella to be exact. It's cute and quirky, and honestly I think it's less harsh than the newest movie Disney came out with, Cinderella 3. It does have the supernatural twist, and refers to sex a few times. It talks of young women getting married at an early age, and only getting married for money. Also there is gay and lesbian issues dealt with in this book.

The Hollow: This book has lots of teenage angst. The main character's best friend has died, and she is trying to figure out how to deal with it. I personally don't think she handles it very well, and that the parents weren't very supportive or paid very much attention. But then again it is just a book. I would recommend this book for teenagers 16 and up, but only if they aren't already having a problem with depression or other emotional issues.

The Haunted: This book continues from The Hollow. Like the first book the main character is dealing with a lot of depression issues, but unlike the first book she handles it much better. The is a real sense of maturity to the book that wasn't always present in the first book. There are a few spots that don't really refer to sex, but are sexually teasing in nature. I would recommend this for ages 16 and up :)

The Iron Queen:  There is war and bloodshed throughout the entire book. The language is very mild, hardly any cussing at all. And there is one scene that refers to sex, but is not explicit in any way. I would recommend this book for ages 15 and up.
